Impact Fund Condemns Killings of Alex Pretti and Renee Nicole Good by Federal Law Enforcement in Minneapolis

This week in Minneapolis, city officials reported that a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agent fatally shot Alexander Pretti, a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident. Pretti was a U.S. citizen and intensive care unit nurse. His death came shortly after DHS agents killed Renee Nicole Good and shot Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis in the leg. These unlawful actions by DHS and its agencies, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), have prompted protests both locally and nationwide.

In response, Impact Fund Executive Director Lindsay Nako issued the following statement:

“The Impact Fund was founded on the principle that collective action is critical to a healthy democratic society. The Department of Homeland Security’s violent occupation of Minneapolis and the deceptive response of the Trump administration indicate that this administration fears the collective voice of Americans who love their cities, care for their neighbors, and expect accountability for their government.

The murders of Renee Good and Alexander Pretti are violent and shocking acts that should be followed by immediate calls for investigation and accountability. Instead, they are being used as tools of intimidation.

The Impact Fund stands with the people of Minneapolis who will not be intimidated. We join with them as they raise their collective voice in defense of their city, their neighbors, and the values of democratic government.

Because this does not start or end in Minneapolis, the Impact Fund calls on Congress to restrict DHS funding and pass the Bivens Act, which would allow federal officials to be held accountable for unlawful actions.”
