Impact Fund Class Action Forum (aka the Impact Fund ListServe)

Statement of Purpose & Etiquette Guidelines

The Impact Fund Class Action Forum is designed as a confidential (“what happens on the list, stays on the list”) chat list for plaintiff-side class action practitioners to share successes, progress, setbacks, solutions, and challenges they encounter in their day-to-day practice. Examples include updates on new cases or legislation and inquiries regarding possible co-counsel, expert witnesses, or other technical advice. Please also feel free to post details of FREE events and resources about class action practice or procedure. Please keep your posts constructive and on topic.

Please Note:

1. General Announcements: This list is not for general announcements of related material, blog posts, marketing, petitions/sign on requests that are not class action focused, fundraising, or other activities. Related material is better shared via our social media accounts at Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and LinkedIn. If you have content you would like us to share, please email Teddy.

2. Jobs: The list is not for job announcements. If you have a job opening, please fill out the online form here: https://www.impactfund.org/jobs. Your job opening will be included in the separate Impact Fund Public Interest Mid-Week Jobs Bulletin the following Wednesday. The jobs bulletin is also sent to the Class Action Forum and the listings are hosted at our website.

3. Lobbying: No network of the Impact Fund should ever be used to lobby for a candidate for elected office as this contravenes our charitable status. This includes publishing or communicating anything that explicitly or implicitly favors or opposes a candidate.

4. Sharing Information: Please do not share information circulated on this list without the permission of the sender. When sharing information on the list, please include the full text of any article or attach the pleading, decision, etc.

5. Affiliation/Interns: We will not add personal email accounts. Listmates must provide an organizationally affiliated email. We do not add interns.

6. Confidentiality: Please also note that, while we regard everything on this list as confidential, sharing privileged information on this list may violate attorney-client confidentiality and/or attorney work product protections. You must evaluate the content of your own messages before sharing. Emails stored by participants may be subject to discovery and/or open records requests.

7. Self-Promotion: Please do not use the list to advertise your or your firm’s services unless you are responding to a specific request.

8. Free Service: The Impact Fund Class Action Forum and Mid-Week Jobs Bulletin are free services provided by the Impact Fund. To help support these and the other free services provided by the Impact Fund, please consider making a contribution to help us cover costs. One way is to join the Impact Fund Social Justice League by becoming a monthly donor!

9. Removal: We reserve the right to remove list members whose behavior falls outside of these guidelines.

We thank you in advance for keeping the Class Action Forum true to its purpose of helping us all with our work and facilitating the sharing of practical information and resources within our practitioner community.

If you have any questions, or content you would like us to share (blog posts, job postings, etc.) via social media, please email us privately.
